Willowbrook Carjacking: 2 Men Charged

The victims were an elderly couple, with the woman shoved in the incident, prosecutors said.

WILLOWBROOK, IL — Two men have been charged in connection with the carjacking of an elderly couple in July in Willowbrook, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The men are Kevin Sanders, 22, of West Lafayette, Indiana, and Antonio Davis, 20, of Chicago. They are in jail in Indiana.

About 3 p.m. July 15, the couple were stopped at the Citgo gas station, 6900 Kingery Highway in Willowbrook. The woman went into the store and then returned to their 2021 BMW 840i. Then, Davis and Sanders approached the BMW, going to different sides of the car, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Sanders went to the passenger side of the car carrying a long gun and shoved the woman away from the car, causing bruising, prosecutors said. At the same time, Davis went to the driver and pointed a gun at the man's head, ordering him out of the car, police said.

The men then stole phones, cash, the man's wallet and the woman's purse, according to the news release. They then entered the BMW and took off with it, police said.

On Aug. 16, authorities learned that Davis and Sanders were arrested by the West Lafayette Police Department on July 28 on armed robbery charges, prosecutors said. Both men have been in custody in Indiana since that time.

In DuPage County, the men face charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery and theft, all felonies. Sanders also was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, while Davis is facing additional charges of armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of robbery.

“The allegations that these two men threatened their victims at gunpoint in the middle of the afternoon at a busy gas station are egregious and will be met with the full force and effect of the law,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release. "The filing of these charges sends the message that if you commit a crime in DuPage County, we will use all available resources to find you, charge you and return you to DuPage County if necessary, where you will face an aggressive prosecution."

Both men will be extradited to Illinois once Indiana handles their cases, prosecutors said. The state's attorney's office said it has filed petitions to deny bail for both men.
