Deerfield Extends Fall Leaf Collection

Because of this year's late leaf drop, the village's collection program has been extended until the end of the month.

DEERFIELD, IL — No need to start bagging up those fallen leaves yet, as Deerfield has extended its fall collection program for an extra two weeks because of this year's late leaf drop. There will be limited collection during the week of Thanksgiving followed by one more week of regular collection before the program ends Nov. 30, the village announced Thursday.

Once a week, village public work crews make one pass by every house to collect leaves from residents who rake their leaves to the curb the night before the scheduled pickup into piles no wider than five feet across.

Residents are asked not to put out leaves more than one day in advance of scheduled pickups, not to block the sidewalk or street, not to rake grass clippings, sticks, rocks, branches or mud to the curb with your leaves and don't wait until the last week to put out all your leaves.

While bad weather might delay pickups, the village promised crews will make at least four trips through each neighborhood.

The above map shows when each quadrant of Deerfield has its scheduled pickup during the leaf collection program. After the final pickup day in your neighborhood, all leftover leaves will have to be bagged with a yard waste sticker on them and will be picked up along with regular refuse collections on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
