Deerfield Park District To Present Jewett Park 2.0 Concept Plan
The final concept plan will be unveiled at the Aug. 2 park board meeting.

DEERFIELD, IL — The Deerfield Park District is creating a concept plan for improving Jewett Park over the next five to 10 years. After hiring the consulting firm Planning Resources, Inc., the district has received feedback from focus groups, surveys and online chat rooms for its Jewett Park 2.0 master planning process. A final concept plan is set to be discussed at a meeting of the Deerfield Park District Board of Commissioners at 7:30 p.m. on Aug 2 at the Jewett Park Community Center, according to the Deerfield Review.
Residents can still submit their ideas about the park through an online community forum. In market research, many users of the 12-acre park in the center of Deerfield expressed a desire for an improved perimeter path, while others suggested adding basketball courts, according to the Review. Other suggestions on the online forum included a splash pad, more playground equipment, a bandshell or concert area and saving money by doing nothing.
Park District Executive Director Jeff Nehila told Pioneer Press a final concept plan will go to the Deerfield Plan Commission and Village Board. The changes must fit the village's Northwestern Quadrant Master Plan and municipal code. Nehila said the plan has incorporated information from youth sports groups, users of the skate park and the general public, according to the Deerfield Review. He said some parts of the park were aging and so a plan was needed to improve existing amenities and add new ones.
