Economic Development a Hot Topic at Deerfield Debate
Four trustee candidates touch on Deerbrook, medical marijuana and vacancy.

A recent Deerfield Village Board of Trustees election debate between Incumbents Bob Benton, Tom Jester and Bill Seiden and challenger and Plan Commission Chairman Dan Shapiro was dominated by economic development.
The candidates touched on vacant space downtown, the current state of Deerbrook and how to limit the possibility of a medical marijuana dispensary to open in the village at the event organized by the League of Women Voters.
According to a report in the Deerfield Review: “Benton, Jester and Seiden recognized there has been some downtown space which has been vacant long time and in those cases it is worth considering a non-retail use, as was done recently when a nail salon was granted a special use permit to operate on Waukegan Road just north of Deerfield Road.”
