Petit Somme Launches its Signature Neck Pillow

Chicago, IL – A mother’s mission to comfort an uneasy child in the back seat has turned into an innovative and sustainable product that allows parents to rest a little easier when traveling with their children.

Developed by Shirin Pope after a challenging 4 hour car ride with her then six month old daughter, Pope noticed that her baby had spent more time crying than sleeping. After extensive research, she came to the harrowing realization that because of the constriction when confined in the car seat, her child’s head was falling forward causing her airways to close and her breathing was compromised.

“As a parent you want to do everything to ensure your children are safe and healthy,” says Pope of her primary motivation. “After frantically searching for a comfort pillow with functional support and not finding one, Petit Somme was born. With the help of my husband and my brother, we focused on bringing this patented, innovative neck pillow to consumers.”

Shirin Pope is a native of the northern suburbs of Chicago. She is a graduate of North Shore Country Day School, and holds a B.A. from Lake Forest College, double majoring in Sociology & Anthropology, as well as Art History & Studio Art. With an interest in early childhood education, she also holds an International Montessori Teaching Diploma and has taught preschool and kindergarten. After September 11th, she joined the US Air Force and met her husband of eleven years and together have raised two amazing kids. It was during military time spent overseas where Pope was exposed to concepts of environmental safety and sustainability and her passion in these fields grew. She became an advocate for the importance of conservation, the organic lifestyle, and responsible recycling.
