Coffee Talk to connect to Chicago's drawbridges
Coffee Talk, "Chicago River Bridges," Thursday, July 14, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street.

The public is invited to the Coffee Talk, “Chicago River Bridges,” Thursday, July 14, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street.
Come learn about Chicago’s extraordinary bridges that made the Windy City what it is today—the drawbridge capital of the world. Discover the architectural and engineering significance of the bridges, past and present, mixed with the human dramas of bridge jumps, political battles, and destruction of bridges by flood, fire, and cattle. A $3 donation is suggested.
While at the History Center, visitors are welcome to tour the 1907 Kinder House museum and view the display, “Des Plaines Architecture: An Exhibit about our Homes and City,” as well as the Des Plaines Fire Department’s exhibit. The installation honors the fire department’s 125 years of service in Des Plaines and includes fire equipment, taped interviews with firemen, dozens of photographs, the “Jaws of Life,” a memorial statue, and fire coats to try on.
