Dr. Saba Khan Sworn in for 2nd Term as Village Trustee in Morton Grove

It was a glorious and historic evening in the Village of Morton Grove on Monday, May 27, 2025, as a hijab-clad Muslim woman, Dr. Saba Khan, was sworn in for a second term and attended a board meeting as a trustee.
She made history in 2021 when a Muslim woman became the first woman in Morton Grove history to hold the office of trustee.
Dr. Saba Khan was sworn in by outgoing Morton Grove Mayor Dan DeMaria at the Civic Center Morton Grove. Jeanine Witko, a former Village Trustee, began her four-year term as Mayor and Village President of the Village of Morton Grove when she was sworn in as mayor at the same ceremony.
Saba Khan, Morton Grove, has been an active and positive contributor to the Muslim Community Center Chicago for over two decades.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Trustee Dr. Khan’s family, as well as members of the Pakistani, Indian, Muslim and interfaith communities.
“I am grateful to my friends and family who have sent me messages of congratulations and well-wishes,” Dr. Khan said in an interview. “I would like to thank all those who have congratulated me on social media,” she added.
“At this time, I do not consider myself a Muslim trustee; instead, I will treat all religious communities fairly, equally and diligently.”

Dr. Saba Khan has been practicing the specialty of periodontics and dental implantology for over a decade.
Saba Khan, a resident of Morton Grove, has been an active and positive contributor to the Muslim Community Center Chicago for over a decade. Currently, she serves as the Vice President of the Muslim Community Center Chicago and the Bylaws Committee and the Education Development Committee of MCC.
Dr. Khan received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry, and completed a three-year postgraduate residency program in periodontics and implant dentistry at Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2005. She earned the highest honor of becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Dental Implants, a distinction held by fewer than one-third of practicing periodontists. She is also a published author in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Periodontology.
Dr. Khan has resided in Morton Grove for many years and is married to Mazhar Khan, who is currently a board trustee in Niles Township and an engineer by profession. Dr. Khan is the proud mother of Mubashir and Ibrahim. Both have been active youth in the Morton Grove community as social development volunteers.
