German historian to discuss German guilt
Coffee Talk, "The Land of the Perpetrators: The Question of German Guilt," Thursday, Oct. 8, 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Des Plaines History Center
German historian Anette Isaacs returns to the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street, to present the Coffee Talk, “The Land of the Perpetrators: The Question of German Guilt,” Thursday, October 8, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. She was the History Center’s speaker last May and delivered the presentation, “The Germans and their Fuehrer: Insights into a Mutual Obsession.”
Related to her upcoming Coffee Talk, Isaacs’ website states: “It has been eight decades since Adolf Hitler rose to power and lured millions of willing Germans on to a path of violence and destruction that led to the ultimate break with civilization. Even today, 70 years after the end of World War II, generations of Germans are still grappling with their country’s—and, in many cases, their own family’s—horrible legacy.” Join Isaacs for a fascinating discussion of how the German nation has attempted to cope with the guilt regarding the Holocaust.
Throughout 2015, the History Center has been hosting various programs and events related to World War II in honor of the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. After the Coffee Talk, guests are welcome to view the exhibit, “World War II: Des Plaines and the War against Fascism,” which will remain on display at the History Center through December.
