Memorial held for Wadee Alfayoumi, 6-year-old boy was slain last year
Wadea al-Fayoume a six-year-old Palestinian-American boy, was killed when he was stabbed 26 times in his home in Plainfield Township, Ill
The Muslim community in Chicago came together on Monday night, October 14, 2024, at the Muslim Community Center Chicago, to honor a 6-year-old Plainfield boy who was fatally stabbed one year prior, that was considered a hate crime.
Wadee's landlord killed him and stabbed his mother, according to the prosecution, because they were Palestinian. The charges against Joseph Czuba, 71, include two counts of hate crimes and one count each of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated violence.
The Council of American Islamic Relations' executive director, Ahmed Rehab, stated, "A year ago today, Wadee Alfayoumi - this beautiful young angel, this young boy, six years old, was attacked and stabbed 26 times in the sanctity and safety of his own home."
Czuba is being held for trial on several felonies, which include attempted and murderous murder. He made a not guilty plea.
Authorities were informed by Shaheen that Czuba's rage was caused by the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict a few days prior. Authorities concur that the victims were singled out due to their Muslim faith, and just last month, the US Senate overwhelmingly approved a resolution commemorating Wadee's life.
One year later, we are still thinking about them, according to a statement published by President Joe Biden on Monday. Hanan's voice for peace is powerful, and we are thankful for her recovery. Yet, we are aware of the void their darling son has left in their hearts. It's difficult to have days like this since everything comes back. Our hearts hold them close to us.
The rest of Biden's speech restates the country's resolve to combat hate in all of its forms.
Wadee's father, Odai Al-Fayoumi, stated that every child ought to have the opportunity to see their future. His ideal situation would be to have four children, the first of whom he would call Wadee and the second Miriam.
According to Al-Fayoumi, his wife is presently expecting a child girl, as of Monday.
"God changed the plan after Wadee arrived. Wadee and Miriam are with me, despite the adjustment. Ahmed Rehab from CAIR Chicago who provided translation for Al-Fayoumi,
Al-Fayoumi believes his daughter will carry on his son's legacy even if his children will not be together in this life.
