School Day Off Program at Des Plaines History Center
Martin Luther King, Jr. program set for Monday, January 18, from 1-3 p.m. at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street.

Come celebrate the life of social activist Martin Luther King, Jr. at the School Day Off program Monday, January 18, from 1-3 p.m. at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street.
Children will learn some history about this American Baptist minister and Civil Rights Movement leader of the 1950s and then create a colorful collage. King, who was born on January 15, 1929, was assassinated April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, one day after his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” address.
“Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in nonviolence and used peaceful methods to bring about social change,” said Carmina Gonzalez, Des Plaines History Center programs assistant. “We will discuss his life and make a craft on the day our nation honors him.”
