Winter Weather, Blizzard Warnings Close Des Plaines Area Schools
Falling and blowing snow has led to hazardous travel conditions Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
DES PLAINES, IL — Winter stormed back Sunday night into Monday, making the morning commute more difficult for drivers, as well as closing a number of area schools.
In the Des Plaines area, several schools are closed, including the following, according to Emergency Closing Center:
- Walsh Academy (public), Des Plaines
- Christian Liberty Academy (private), Arlington Heights
- Valeo Academy (private), Hoffman Estates
- Metro Prep/Laureate Day School (daycare), Arlington Heights (closed with e-learning)
According to the National Weather Service, which issued blizzard warnings for parts of the Chicagoland area, a winter weather advisory remains in place for Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, La Salle, Livingston and Will counties until 1 p.m.

NWS predicted snow and blowing snow, with wind gusts up to 45 mph. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous, and blowing snow will result in reduced visibility and make travel hazardous at times through the Monday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches, NWS said.
