Aurora Police Raise More Than $11K For Polar Plunge
Officer Chris Weaver was the top fundraiser for the Polar Plunge at Silver Springs State Park.
AURORA, IL — Members of the Aurora Police Department jumped into the frigid waters at Silver Spring State Park in Yorkville Sunday for a good cause as part of the annual Polar Plunge. The team raised more than $11,000, which help support athletes of Special Olympics Illinois, with Aurora Officer Chris Weaver earning the spot as the top fundraiser for the Yorkville plunge.
Some of the officers traded their uniforms for swimsuits before they tiptoed into the waters and then dove beneath the surface. The following participants braved the waters on behalf of the Aurora Police Department participated in the plunge:

Officer Chris Weaver, who raised more than $5,000 alone, had been publicly challenged by his colleague, Detective Jim Kerry, to take the plunge. In a Facebook live video, Kerry seemed more than delighted to film Weaver's "long-awaited" Polar Plunge.

In total, the Polar Plunge event at Silver Springs State Park in Yorkville raised nearly $80,000 to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.
