Body Of Missing Downers Grove Man Found In Retention Pond

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The body of a Downers Grove man who had been missing since early January was found in a retention pond in Woodridge Friday.

Mark Sadelski, 47, had last been seen Jan. 9 and was believed to be walking near Woodward Avenue and 71st Street. Sadelski had a medical condition that put him in danger, police said.

On Jan. 21, a police officer found a piece of clothing near a pond in the 7300 block of Woodward Avenue in Woodridge. Local firefighters and police officers began to search the pond with "underwater technology," but suspended the search due to "icy conditions," a news release said.

Around 3:20 p.m. Friday, Downers Grove police officers and firefighters found a body in the same pond that was later positively identified as Sadelski. The DuPage County Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine Sadelski's official cause of death.
