Overwhelmed? Try Committing to Just Three Goals This Week

Too much to do? Commit to only three goals.

In January, on my Writers Inspired blog, I began a series on goals. By selecting only three goals to really focus on, we may be more productive then trying to get it all done. I don't know about you, but my to-do list can fill a legal pad.

The premise of the "Commit to 3," is to hone in on your top priorities. First, what is your biggest goal? Change careers? Sell your home? Lose weight? Write the next best seller?

Next, write down every step you need to take to get you there. Each week, select the top three tasks you need to do to move you towards that goal. This will keep you focused without wiggin' out about how long that list is!

My Top Goals?

  • Get fit! (lose x number of pounds, tone up, gain energy)
  • Complete novel revisions and sign a book deal
  • Inspire (more!) young adults in my community to find and develop their creative writing skills.
  • Have fun! Stop being so serious and just go with the flow—making me a more fun, relaxed mom and wife.

Finally, reward! Give yourself a salary for completing your three goals. Read why you should do this here.

Based on those goals >>

This week, I commit to:

  1. Read and provide feedback on my critique partner’s first chapter and send her the latest version of my novel’s Chapter One.
  2. 100 crunches six times and a 30-min walk after dinner five times.
  3. Review notes on novel-in-progress, write next scene.

Salary:  Practice Lesson 1 of Rosetta Stone-Italian (on library loan)

Ok, readers:  Baby steps, just pick three. Share them here for accountability. (Ha, I’m a poet!)
