Hekla is a sharp, funny, and heartfelt look at the emotional cost of chasing a creative life. Set over one frantic day in Chicago, it follows actress Hekla Gudmunsdottir (Elizabeth Stam) as she barrels through auditions, new headshots, a dive‑bar turn as Lady Macbeth, and the intrusive echoes of a recent breakup. Ambition, identity, and vulnerability collide as she fights to claim her voice and step into the artist — and woman — she’s becoming. Beneath the comedy and momentum lies a simple truth: sometimes showing up for yourself matters most, even when no one’s clapping yet.
Director Michael Glover Smith and cast members are the featured guests and will be hosting a Q&A following the film.
Organist David Rhodes and the Mighty Wurlitzer preshow concerts welcome attendees as they arrive. The organ lights up 30 minutes before the screening, so come early and enjoy the music!
