Downers Grove Native Charged With Two Counts of Rape in Indiana

The man is a former Indiana University student and a brother of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

A former Indiana University student from Downers Grove has been charged with raping two women in separate incidents.

John Phillip Enochs, 21, is charged with two felony rapes, one Felony 3 for rape when compelled by force or imminent threat or force, and one Felony B for rape when the victim is unaware, according to the Monroe County case summary.

Enochs was studying business at Indiana University when it’s alleged the rapes took place, a spokesperson for the school told the Indiana Daily Student, and Enochs’ lawyer said he was also a brother of Delta Tau Delta fraternity at the time.

One charge is related in an April 11 incident at a Delta Tau Delta party, when one woman reports she blacked out and woke up as she was being sexually assaulted by a stranger who didn’t stop trying to have sex with her when she told him ”no,” the Indiana Daily Student reports, based on an affidavit.

A security video shows Enochs leading the woman down a hall in the fraternity house and entering a room. The woman also identified Enochs in a photo line-up.

The other rape charge is related to an Oct. 2013 incident in which a woman says she was raped at her sorority, Delta Zeta, the Indiana Daily Student reports.

The woman and Enochs planned to go as dates to a dance hosted by Delta Zeta and Delta Tau Delta, and they were drinking with friends beforehand. The woman said she didn’t remember about an hour of time at her sorority house, but friends said they saw through a courtyard window at that time that Enochs and the woman had sex. She reportedly woke up and didn’t remember what happened.

She reported the rape Oct. 21, 2013, though she didn’t choose to pursue an investigation until she heard about the April assault.

Enochs turned himself in and was arrested Sept. 11 after a judge issued an order to surrender on Sept. 9. He was released that day after paying a surety bond of $20,000 and a cash bond of $500, the case summary stated.

Enochs is scheduled for pretrial conference Nov. 10.
