Fire Rips Through Westmont Apartment Complex, Displacing Families
Heavy winds caused flames to rise more than 20 feet in the air during the fire, which broke out before 2 a.m.
WESTMONT, IL — A fire tore through an apartment complex in Westmont early Wednesday morning, destroying the building and displacing all its residents. Heavy winds made it difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze, which broke near the intersection of 67th St. and Park Lane.
More than 30 neighboring fire crews helped work for more than an hour to put out the flames which rose more than 20 feet, CBS reports. No one was injured in the blaze.
Fire crews said the blaze broke out at approximately 1:45 a.m. and a resident pulled the building's fire alarm to warn other residents of the 16-unit building, according to CBS. Police arrived shortly and helped wake up and evacuate other residents.
