'Holiday Glow' Decorating Contest Kicks Off In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Get those backup generators ready and untangle those light strands: it's time for the Downers Grove Park District's "Holiday Glow" home decorating contest.

The annual contest is accepting submissions through Dec. 12. Residents can compete in the "traditional" category or channel Chevy Chase's over-the-top enthusiasm in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" and enter the "Griswold" category.

Judges will view the competing homes between Dec. 15 and Dec. 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will rank homes based on the following considerations:

• Theme
• Use of lights
• Special features

A map of participating homes will be made available, so residents can take a self-guided tour of the lights displays. The winners of each category will be announced Dec. 20.
