Hope's Front Door Dental Program
Hope's Front Door needs dentists to become community partners

Retired and on a fixed income, Barbara was not sure how to address her serious dental issues. She had not been to the dentist in years and had some cracked teeth which required crowns. Hope’s Front Door sent Barbara to Midwestern University's Dental Institute. She was amazed at the care she received and how all staff at Midwestern Dental were professional and really cared about her experience.
Barbara explained that she was seen by two helpful student dentists; Matthew and Shareen. Barbara had been married to an Iranian and saw that Shareen was Iranian as well. She spoke to Shareen in her native language and they instantly built a rapport for one another. During each appointment, Shareen and Barbara would catch up on family matters and life in general.
Since being evaluated at Midwestern Dental, Barbara has received 3 temporary crowns and has an appointment for the fourth. When ready, the permanent crowns will be placed. Barbara is “beyond thrilled” not only with the care she has received from Midwestern but with the assistance Hope’s Front Door has provided. She gave kudos to volunteers for how helpful and concerned they were. One in particular was Jack who helped her with immediate grocery assistance in July and then recommended that she talk to Lydia, Hope's Front Door Health & Wellness Volunteer, to find dental help.

Hope's Front Door Special Assistance Program addresses needs such as prescriptions, emergency dental care, emergency housing for medical purposes, eye exams/eye glasses, and employment related transportation/uniforms. Also, Health & Wellness Resource Center (HWRC), a subprogram of their Special Assistance Program, links clients with pharmaceutical companies Prescription Assistance Programs and Disease State Foundations. These programs provide medication, medical supplies, disease management education and other resources to the low income under insured or uninsured.
Every day at HFD volunteers see the importance of services provided. However, that special human touch of respect makes all the difference and is essential to maintaining the dignity of every client.
