Hope's Front Door is providing school supplies to those in need

Organizations, such as Downer Grove Junior Woman's Club, have collected school supplies for children to excel in their education.

After a morning of errands at Target, she wanted to see the school supply section before we left the store. My 20+ daughter loved this time of year when I would take her to pick out a new back pack, colorful folders with her favorite characters, pens, pencils, crayons and a wide variety of composition books so that she could write her first novel. It was so much fun starting school with a new collection. As a teacher, I, too, loved preparing my classroom. One year, my daughter remembered that I could only afford certain items.....finances were not good. I did not remember... though as a single mother raising two children, there were many moments of struggle. I looked the other way surprised and, of course, sad she had remembered. As parents, we want to give our children the best we are able.

Hope’s Front Door changes lives for approximately 4000 residents every year from Downers Grove, Lisle, Westmont, Darien, Willowbrook, Woodridge and the homeless as they come through the doors; a non profit organization that serves over 300 client visits a month to families and individuals who are suffering in our community.

In many instances, those in desperate need come for immediate assistance which Hope’s Front Door provides in gas vouchers, food vouchers, rail passes, sometimes an overnight hotel respite stay. But that is not the end of the story. Hopes Front Door has become a first responder to clients in poverty, addressing the immediate physical and emotional needs while also providing long-term solutions.
