Local Jr. High Fundraises to Support Community Members with Cancer

Local Fundraiser for Ride Janie Ride

Lakeview Junior High, in Center Cass School District 66, is hosting a fundraiser from April 20th-May 3rd to support the Ride Janie Ride Foundation. Ride Janie Ride, an organization that provides financial assistance to local families affected by cancer, raises money for several community families through a 50 mile motorcycle ride in May. This year, Ride Janie Ride has chosen a former Lakeview student, Krystal Berryman, as one of the recipients. The Lakeview Student Council thought that this would a be a wonderful opportunity to fundraise to support a special district family. As students bring in their donations, they will receive a Ride Janie Ride bracelet, along with a paper motorcycle on which they can write the name of someone they know who has been affected by cancer. All motorcycles will be displayed in the school lobby to honor those loved ones. At the end of the fundraiser, the grade level who has brought in the most donations will earn a reward.

Back in 2010, Lakeview also held a fundraiser to support Ride Janie Ride, when two of its school families were being sponsored by the organization. School students and staff came together to raise a $13,000 donation that was presented to the Ride Janie Ride board members during a school assembly!

“With the pressures of school, sports, and family, students are already so busy. It always amazes us how the students have stepped up to help perfect strangers,” said Luke Pennings, the executive director for the Ride Janie Ride foundation. “These students raising money for our cause is very noble; It means a lot, however, that they are spreading the word about the mission and cause. Raising awareness is even more important.”
