Midwestern University Students Show Support at Apraxia Walk
Speech-Language Pathology students help raise money for the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association
The Midwestern University Speech-Language Pathology Program and the Midwestern University chapter of the National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) was a proud sponsor and participant of Chicago’s annual Walk for Apraxia on September 22, 2019.
Proceeds from the walk benefited the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association in its efforts to provide support to children with apraxia, their families, and friends. Apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder in which the person has difficulty sending signals from their brain to the muscles used for speech.
This year, the Midwestern University team raised more than $1,000 achieving Champions Club status and received special recognition at the walk opening ceremony at Soldier Field in Chicago. Midwestern University Speech-Language Pathology students and their faculty mentors help children and adults with apraxia and other language disorders become better communicators at the Speech-Language Institute, which is part of Midwestern University’s Multispecialty Clinic in Downers Grove, IL.
