My husband of 23 years left work one day and never came home

Childhood hunger is not just something that happens in other cities or counties. One in six children living in DuPage County experiences food insecurity. Everyday Hope's Front Door provides food vouchers to help provide area families access to fresh food. Robin, a single mother, who first called the office to explain her urgent need for help.

“My husband of 23 years left for work one day this past November and never returned home. Coincidentally, I left my job of three years this past November for health reasons. If I knew he was leaving us I would've stuck it out and dealt with my pain. The situation is becoming dire. My water will be shut off on the 15th, the pantry is empty and I'm becoming extremely discouraged. I married at 19 and don't know how to do this by myself. I'm sick to my stomach constantly and can no longer give my children a decent meal. I never saw this coming.”

After visiting Hope’s Front Door, Robin was encouraged about being able to provide food for her children.
“I was able to fix my children a complete meal that included chicken and green beans with the use of the Hope's Front Door food vouchers. The looks on their faces! They were smiling and excited about having this type of meal. It was priceless.”
