New Principal To Take Helm At Whittier Elementary

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Bryan Bolton has been chosen to take the helm as Whittier Elementary's new principal. Bolton's appointment was unanimously approved by the Downers Grove Grade School Board of Education on Monday.

Bolton, who is an alum of Downers Grove High School, earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education at Lewis University before earning a masters degree in educational leadership from Northern Illinois University.

He started his career student teaching at Herrick Middle School and went on to become a social studies teacher before moving into administrative roles. Most recently, Bolton has served as principal of Addison School District 4's Fullerton Elementary School.

"Bryan distinguished himself through his empathetic, passionate, and goal-oriented leadership style. He understands the importance of setting clear goals and developing actionable plans, while also viewing situations through multiple perspectives," District 58 Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell remarked in a statement.

Russell added that Bolton's "exceptional references and strong reputation as a school leader reflect his professionalism and commitment to creating a safe, supportive environment where students can learn and thrive."

Bolton said he is "grateful for a community that has given me so much, and deeply honored to serve by working collaboratively with the Whittier community to build on a long-standing tradition of excellence and opportunity for our students.

Bolton will start as principal in July 2026, taking over the role from Michael Krugman, who is set to retire at the close of the 2025-26 school year.
