Olsen Reacts to Passage of Automatic Voter Registration Bill

Legislation that provides for automatic voter registration in Illinois sailed through the Illinois House on Monday, May 29.

Bipartisan legislation that provides for automatic voter registration in Illinois sailed through the Illinois House on Monday in a unanimous vote. In response to the passage SB 1933, State Representative David S. Olsen (R-Downers Grove), a co-sponsor of the bill, has issued the following statement:

“Ensuring that every eligible citizen has an opportunity to cast their ballot is crucial to our system of democracy. The ability for people to vote is a fundamental right for all Illinois citizens who are of age. Our democracy works best when voter participation in elections is high, and I was proud to sponsor this important legislation that has the potential to help increase voter participation.”

“This legislation also includes provisions that protect the sanctity of the voting process and takes important steps to reduce the potential for fraud.”
