UPDATED: Denburn Woods Burglary Suspect Evades Capture
Subject is a white male in his late teens or early 20s and may be armed.

Police have ended the search for a suspect who attempted to burglarize two vehicles in Denburn Woods this morning before fleeing into the surrounding area.
"We have not located the subject and are clearing the scene," said Downers Grove Police Sgt. David Bormann.
Members of various forces including the FIAT canine unit and the Illinois State Police took part in the search, which began shortly after the suspect, a white male in his late teens or early 20s, was seen burglarizing the vehicles in the 1300 block of Turvey Road at about 9:30 a.m.

A witness told police the man, who was wearing a green or olive shirt, may have carried a gun, Bormann said.
The witness reportedly alerted neighbors to the attempted burglaries in an email, saying a 911 call had been placed and describing the man as carrying what looked like a handgun and a rifle, a recipient of the email told Patch. He asked that his name not be used. The witness also wrote that police had instructed her to take shelter in the basement, the email recipient said.

The subject fled into the wooded neighborhood when police arrived on the scene. Police officers established a perimeter from Denburn Woods to Lee Street and Gilbert Park to Maple Avenue, Bormann said. They searched the wooded area, including the Maple Grove Forest Preserve and Gilbert Park, on foot and with canine units, but could not locate the subject, Bormann said.
Police earlier supervised a release of the Avery Coonley School, which abuts the Denburn Woods neighborhood, as a precaution.
An airplane, the FIAT canine unit and the Illinois State Police SWAT team aided in the investigation.
The upscale neighborhood has been the scene of several recent incidents, including and . The fire remains under investigation.
