Downers Grove Residents Urged to Attend Town Hall About Teen Heroin Use

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Local parents and students are invited to attend a town hall meeting to learn about the rise of heroin abuse among suburban teens and young adults in a panel discussion “Heroin: The Suburban Secret.” The town hall is sponsored by State Rep. Patti Bellock (47th District) and the Western Springs Police Department,

The town hall meeting will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Lyons township High School’s South Campus, Performing Arts Center, located at 4900 S. Willow Springs Road, Western Springs. Residents can learn more about local law enforcement’s efforts to stem the tide of rising heroin abuse.

The panel discussion will feature the following law enforcement leaders:

• Dennis Whicern, DEA, Special Agent in Charge, Chicago Division
• Brian Sexton, Chief, Narcotics Prosecution Bureau, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office
• Mark Piccoli, Director of DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group (DuMEG)
• Sergeant Dan Albrecht, Western Springs Police Department

“We are bringing together the finest local law enforcement leaders fighting the rise of heroin abuse among teens and young adults to help make parents and families aware of what’s taking place in our communities,” Rep. Bellock said in a news release. “By educating each other about this public health threat, together we can do a better job of saving lives and preventing future tragedies that have devastated too many suburban families already."

The panel discussion is sure to be eye-opening for many residents. A question-and-answer session will follow.
