St. Joseph School Serves Community in Several Ways

Catholic School, Community Service, Charity

St. Joseph School and its students are always looking for ways to help serve others both inside and outside the school. Recently, St. Joseph students participated in several activities focused on helping others and the community. “Faith formation is instilled in our students every day through prayer, religious education, and service,” said Principal Rita Stasi. “We encourage our students to find ways to serve God, whether it’s helping a classmate, raising money for a charitable cause, collecting necessities for those in need, or working together to provide for our community.”

St. Joseph School partnered with St. Mary of Gostyn for “Baseball Monday” to help raise money for a student at Our Lady of Peace School who is battling an illness. Students wore their favorite sport shirt and raised $2,405 to help defray this student’s medical expenses.

On October 14, K-8th grade students marched to support Catholic Education in a Diocese of Joliet event called “Move Your Feet.” Students raised over $600 to support the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) which distributes more than 1,500 need-based scholarships each year to K-12th grade students in the Diocese of Joliet.

Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors in second and fourth grade gathered together to make Christmas ornaments for the downtown Downers Grove Christmas tree located at the Main Street train station. The ornaments are also on display at the Downers Grove Public Library.

Third grade students collected donated Halloween candy and packaged it to distribute to the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry and the Guardian Angel Home in Joliet. Students in grades K-8 brought non-perishable food and pantry items to a recent all-school mass. The items were blessed and donated to the St. Vincent De Paul food pantry prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
