Community Corner

We want you!

A great place for community service or to add experience on a resume

Here at HOPE’S FRONT DOOR the volunteers are the “heart beat” of the organization. We could not operate without the dedication of community members who understand the needs of those in crisis and volunteer to lend a hand. There are many ways one can help at HOPE’S FRONT DOOR.

Most of our volunteers sit with clients and assess their needs during our hours of operation. During the interview process, the volunteer and client determine the type of assistance that will best meet the client’s needs. The assistance distributed can come in the form of food vouchers, transportation, prescription drug help, job lists or a host of referrals to organizations that can provide long-term help. One of the most priceless forms of assistance provided by HOPE’S FRONT DOOR volunteers is a caring and listening ear to community members in crisis.

It’s like giving back to the community on a one-on-one basis. So many volunteer activities do not involve meeting clients and if they do they may not afford the opportunity of being able to talk with them and letting them know someone cares about them. I like the referral system that has been built up through the years, so that we not only give the “band aid” of financial assistance, but can give some options to get further assistance.~Ellen W., 16 years as Client Interviewer~
