Geneva, Kane Co. Officers Among Those Injured In Fatal Shooting
A 52-year-old South Elgin man reportedly fired at officers during a standoff Tuesday night. He was fatally shot by officers, police said.

SOUTH ELGIN, IL – The three SWAT team members shot by an armed man during a standoff in South Elgin Tuesday night were from the Geneva Police Department, Hanover Park Police Department and Kane County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said. The officers, whose identities are not immediately known, are listed in good condition. Meanwhile, an investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which left a 52-year-old South Elgin man dead, is underway.
The man who was killed has been identified as Frank Dripps, of the 300 block of Woodridge Circle, police said.
Authorities were first called to the 300 block of Woodridge at about 10:50 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, a man immediately began yelling and using vulgar language while firing from a shotgun, according to a news release from the South Elgin Police Department.

Dripps also reportedly told officer he would shoot at them if they "came at him," according to a news release from the South Elgin Police Department.
The SWAT team was called to the scene and a perimeter was established as negotiations began with the suspect, according to police. Authorities said at one point during the standoff, the man had a rifle and shotgun pointed at officers.

Authorities evacuated the area and those living in the Woodridge Circle were told to take cover and not to come outside unless directed by police, according to the news release.
After about four hours, the man came out of the home and shot at police officers. Officers fired back, killing Dripps, according to police. The three officers struck by gunfire were taken to local hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is handling an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
