6 Remote Teachers Being Hired In Elmhurst D-205
Officials explain why the additional teachers are needed.
ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 is hiring six teachers who will instruct virtual classes. But parents need not worry: It’s not considered a move away from in-person education.
The teachers are being employed to instruct kindergarten through fifth grade students who are in quarantine at home. Two of the remote teachers started last week, and another two were slated to begin this week, officials said. The district is planning to hire still another two.
The teachers will work from school and teach students remotely.

At last week’s board meeting, member Athena Arvanitis said she was glad to see the low number of students in quarantine – only 15 over two weeks in a district with more than 8,000 students.
Last school year, thousands of students went into quarantine in the final two months. During that time, their regular teachers were connected remotely to them, giving their attention to both in-person and remote students. But some said teachers seemed focused on their computer screens to the detriment of in-person students.
