Businesses Damaged, DUI: Darien Police

Officers responding to an alarm find front doors shattered, report says.

DARIEN, IL — The Darien Police Department released its latest blotter, which includes reports of DUI and vandalism:

  • Officers responded to an alarm about 2:30 a.m. June 22 at Darien Liquor, 8125 Cass Ave. Upon arrival, they found the front doors of Darien Liquor and Sylvia's Bakery, 8117 Cass Ave., shattered. Someone entered the businesses. The loss is unknown.
  • Kevin Swierk, 29, of Hometown, was arrested about 7:30 a.m. June 21 in the 7400 block of Cass Avenue on charges of DUI, speeding, no valid insurance and illegal transportation of alcohol. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Vincent Maldonado, 22, of Chicago, was cited at 10:30 p.m. June 21 at 75th Street and Plainfield Road on charges of driving with a suspended license, disobeying a traffic control device and improper lighting. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Someone scratched the driver's side of a car between midnight June 20 and 1:30 p.m. June 24 in the 7600 block of Baker Court. The loss was estimated at $500.
