District 212’s art department is hosting the annual Spring Art Exhibit and Reception to be held at both campuses April 22-24. The exhibits showcase the works of art students, and include drawings, paintings, photographs, graphic design pieces, sculptures, ceramics, videos, and motion graphics. Both shows also feature the artwork of students from area middle schools.

The art shows will be at both campuses on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22-24 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Nardini Library at East Leyden, and in the Eagle’s Wing at West Leyden. An artists’ reception will be held at both campuses on Monday, April 22 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The exhibits are free and the public is invited to attend.

West campus art teacher Caroline Felix says teachers and students are “really excited about some new additions to the art show reception this year. We will have an award ceremony at 7 p.m. to recognize outstanding senior artists, as well as members of the National Art Honor Society.”

Individual art awards will be unveiled on various art pieces created by students in all art classes. In addition, AP Studio Art students will be on hand to explain their portfolios.

East Leyden is adding an “Art Battle” to its artists’ reception agenda. (Art Battles are a new trend in art competitions.) A small group of student artists create artwork during a time frame of 20 minutes. When the artwork is completed, guests vote on the finished products. The artist that receives the most votes for his spontaneous creation will win $20."
