District 212’s music department presents “USO Big Band Show” on Friday, November 22 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the auditorium at West Leyden High School, 1000 N. Wolf Rd., Northlake.

Featuring the iconic music of World War II, the musical revue showcases tunes like “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade,” and “It’s Only a Paper Moon” along with European hits of the era such as “La Vie en Rose”. The show involves more than 300 students from both campuses including musicians, dancers, singers and actors performing on a stage reminiscent of the set of a live USO Big Band show. As an added attraction, select performers will portray the Andrew Sisters and the Rockettes; and professional Swing dancers will also make an appearance on stage.

“It is the inclusion of so many talented students that sets this concert apart from other district instrumental concerts,” says Bryan Miller, music teacher and the district’s music department chair. “This is our salute to veterans, thanking them for what they’ve done for our country. It’s our kids paying homage to the era.”
