Elmhurst D-205 Sees Most Virus Cases In 2 Months
The caseload is declining at an elementary school that had seen a big increase.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 reported the most coronavirus cases among students in more than two months.
As of Friday, the school had 41 such cases, up from 34 a week before. That is the biggest caseload since mid-February, when the number was 43.
The number is still far lower than the high of 232 reached in January. At the time, 58 employees also tested positive for the virus, compared with five on Friday, according to the district.

More than a week ago, Jackson Elementary School had the most cases among local public schools, with 18. As of Friday, that number had dropped to seven.

Overall, the district has one coronavirus case for every 200 students.
The district dropped its mask mandate in early February.
Since the beginning of the school year, the district has recorded 1,639 coronavirus cases among students and staff.
As of last Wednesday, Elmhurst Hospital reported four patients testing positive for the coronavirus. That's down from a record high of 105 in January.
In Elmhurst, the number of coronavirus cases has been generally falling over the last three months, though increasing lately. Last week, 109 cases were reported in the city. That works out to one new case for every 420 people in town.
The city reached a weekly high of 599 in January.
