Elmhurst earns third consecutive Leapfrog Top Hospital honor

For the third year in a row, Elmhurst Hospital has been named a Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group for achievements in patient safety and quality.

The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors U.S. hospitals can receive. The Leapfrog Group is an independent hospital watchdog organization.

Elmhurst was one of 118 hospitals in the U.S. and seven in Illinois to be recognized in the categories of Top General Hospitals (35), Top Children’s Hospitals (13), Top Rural Hospitals (17) and Top Teaching Hospitals (53).

The Top Hospital recognition follows Elmhurst’s A in Leapfrog’s Fall 2018 Hospital Safety Grades that were announced in November. Elmhurst is one of only 42 hospitals in the U.S. to achieve an A in every update since Leapfrog began the Safety Grades in 2012.

Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the Top Hospital award, including infection rates, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors.

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, a hospital must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey and achieve highest performance in its category.
