Elmhurst Hospital's Virus Caseload Continues To Fall

Four more coronavirus deaths reported at hospital in the last week, according to an update.

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Hospital's coronavirus caseload continues to drop, reflecting a month-long trend. As of Monday, the hospital had 11 patients being treated for COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, down from 17 a week earlier, according to a hospital update Monday. In the early weeks of the pandemic, the caseload hovered around 60.

In the last week, the hospital reported four more deaths as a result of the coronavirus. That brings the total so far to 63.

Since March 24, 391 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital following treatment for confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the hospital. Elmhurst's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst's number of coronavirus cases edged up 4 percent to 271, up from 242 a week earlier, according to figures from the DuPage County Health Department. The previous two weeks' rates of increase were 7 percent and 12 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 5.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 3.5 in Western Springs, 5.6 in Clarendon Hills, 6 in Darien, 6.2 in La Grange Park, 8.6 in Burr Ridge, 9.4 in DuPage County, 10.4 in Hinsdale, 11.5 in suburban Cook County and 12.5 in La Grange.

In DuPage County, Addison is leading the pack with 812 cases, or 22.3 per thousand, according to the health department. West Chicago follows with 759 cases, or 28.3 per thousand.
