Elmhurst's Growth In Virus Cases Picks Up: County
One more coronavirus-related death is reported in the last week.
ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw an increase in growth in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
As of Sunday, the city experienced 171 new coronavirus cases in the last week, or a 5.8 percent hike, for a total of 2,965. That was up from 4.5 percent from the week before.
Since early October, the number of local coronavirus cases has more than tripled. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst since the pandemic's beginning rose by one in the last week, for a total of 53.

Elmhurst's rate of increase of 5.8 percent was more than DuPage County's hike of 4 percent in the last week. Elmhurst makes up 5 percent of the county's population and 5.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.
As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 63.4 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 49.6 in La Grange Park, 52.8 in Darien, 55.3 in Western Springs, 55.5 in Hinsdale, 60.3 Clarendon Hills, 62.6 in DuPage County, 68.6 in Burr Ridge, 68.9 in suburban Cook County, and 75.9 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 937,909, up 4.2 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 15,969 state residents.
Nationally, 18.9 million people have caught the virus, up 7.5 percent from the week before. A total of 390,901 people have died from the virus in the United States.

As of Monday, Elmhurst Hospital was caring for 43 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, according to the hospital. That is five fewer than a week earlier.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 138 people have died from the coronavirus at the facility. The number is up by four from a week ago.
Since March, 1,191 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital following treatment for confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the hospital. Elmhurst Hospital's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.
