Global Read Aloud Project at Leyden
Students and teachers from around the world read and discuss one book, making connections via a global audience.

The Global Read Aloud project began in 2010 with one goal: to connect students and teachers from around the world by reading and discussing one book. This fall’s choice is Stamped by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi, a book that examines the history of racism in America, and hope for an anti-racist future.
Encouraged by district librarians to join the project, West campus teacher Georgia Stavroulias, and East campus English and literacy teacher Linda Smith, are currently reading and discussing the book with students in their English IV Humanities classes. They are also connecting with teachers and students from Canada, Colorado, New Jersey, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
As for making those connections, West campus librarian Janine Asmus says “students are reminded they now have a global audience, and their own reading identity will take on a new meaning as they hear and learn from one another.”
