IC Catholic Prep Gets New Principal

ELMHURST, PATCH — An assistant principal at IC Catholic Prep is being promoted to principal, a position that he will assume July 1, the school announced Tuesday.

The school's board conducted a search for a principal to lead the high school after current principal Tom Schergen leaves to become principal of De La Salle Institute in Chicago next school year, an IC Catholic Prep news release said.

"I am very pleased that upon the recommendation of the board, Stephen has been chosen as the new principal of IC Catholic Prep," the Rev. Thomas Paul, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, said in a statement. "Stephen’s strong background in academics, coaching and student life make him the right person to lead our school today and well in to the future.”

For the last 17 years, Davidson has developed his student-centered style of educational leadership, the news release said. He was hired by retired principal Pamela M. Levar in 2016 as assistant principal of curriculum.

Before joining the school, Davidson was a theology and Spanish teacher, head coach of the cross country, track and boxing teams, and the director of student activities at Marist High School in Chicago. He holds a bachelor of arts degree with majors in philosophy, theology and Spanish from Notre Dame, a master of arts degree in teaching from Dominican University and a master of arts degree in school leadership from Concordia University.

"I am excited to step into this leadership role and am confident that together with our faculty and staff, we will continue to build upon the strengths of our school," Davidson said in a statement. "We are all committed to Catholic education and to making IC Catholic Prep the best possible educational experience for young women and men to develop in Spirit, Mind, and Body."

IC Catholic Prep is the oldest Catholic, coeducational college prep high school in DuPage County.
