ELMHURST, IL – An IC Catholic Prep student has been accepted to all through United States military academies. Ryan Kenneally, a 17-year-old from Elmhurst, will attend the Naval Academy in the fall.

“I know Ryan’s parents are very, very proud,” said Tom Schergen, president of IC Catholic Prep. “We’ll all enjoy following his career and seeing what great things he will do for our country.”

In order to just apply to one of the nation's three service academies — Naval Academy, West Point U.S. Military Academy and Air Force Academy — high school students must receive an official nomination from their congressman in addition to having an interview with an officer of the school, exceptional grades and civic engagements according to a news release from IC Catholic Prep.

“My brother, Jimmy, has been a tremendous influence on me and is one of the main reasons I chose to attend the Naval Academy, but I’m also appreciative of the guidance and support I’ve received from my family, friends and teachers,” Kenneally said. “I’m extremely excited and I know I’m going to be really, really challenged as a young man at the Naval Academy, however, I know that I can accomplish great things with the loyal support of my family and friends.”
