Sponsored by the Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE), the event is the culmination of a competition that involves Illinois students in K through 12 grades. Students are asked to vote for their favorite book from list of books in four separate categories. Each category represents a different grade range and includes K - 3rd grade, 3rd - 5th grade, 4th - 8th grade and 9th - 12th grade levels. Students representing each grade level announced the book finalists in the appropriate category first, and then announced the winning book in each group.

The results are as follows.

According to the organization’s website, the AISLE was instituted to promote life-long learning by Illinois students; and to ensure that every student has intellectual access to information and a broad range of ideas.

The live broadcast was made possible under the direction of West Leyden librarian Janine Asmus, and District 212’s video production specialist Brandon Delgado.
