Police Warn About Masked Man Sexually Harassing Women In South Evanston (patch.com) β Evanston residents are being urged to stay alert after two women reported encounters with a masked man in south Evanston on Monday, including a sexual battery near Custer and Brummel and an exposure incident near Sherman and South Boulevard. Police are increasing patrols, reviewing video, and asking anyone with information to call 847-866-5000 or text EPDTIP to CRIMES.

Evanston: Former District 65 Superintendent Changes Plea In Federal Kickback Case: Report (patch.com) β Evanston residents are learning that former District 65 Superintendent Devon Horton has changed his plea to guilty in a federal kickback case tied to contracts in the Evanston/Skokie school district. Prosecutors say Horton misused district funds and failed to report illicit gains, and he now faces a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years on the most serious count.

Neighbors top D65 in Niche ratings (evanstonnow.com) β Evanston/Skokie District 65 just earned an overall A- from Niche, but that puts it only in a three-way tie for 11th among nearby North Shore elementary districts. Still, District 65 scored solid marks for teachers, diversity and academics, while Evanston Township High School landed an impressive 15th place statewide among Illinois public high schools.

Proposed city budget includes 8.9% property tax levy hike, mostly for parks (dailynorthwestern.com) β Evanston's newly released 2027 budget proposal would raise the property tax levy 8.9%, with most of that money going to parks and recreation, costing the median homeowner about $180 more a year. The plan also hikes taxes on streaming, rideshares, natural gas, high-value real estate transfers, water, and garbage, and will be debated by the Finance and Budget Committee before a November City Council vote.

Sheinelle Jones Reveals the Special 'Moment' She Shared with Son Kayin, 17, at Her Alma Mater, Where She Met Her Late Husband (people.com) β Northwestern alumni might enjoy knowing that TV host Sheinelle Jones recently returned to the Evanston campus to receive a Distinguished Alumnae Award and share the visit with her teenage son. During the trip, they visited Ryan Field and meaningful campus spots where she met and later got engaged to her late husband.
