Evanston Boy Charged in Emerson Street Shooting

List of charges suggests the 16-year-old is a gang member.

A 16-year-old Evanston boy has been charged with four felonies and one misdemeanor in connection with the Wednesday afternoon shooting of a Skokie man in the 1700 block of Emerson Street.

Evanston police officers responding to the area around 4 p.m. stopped two male juveniles in the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue and recovered a .380 caliber Kel-Tac handgun from one of the subjects before releasing the other without charges.

The boy was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of firearm by street gang member, no valid firearm owner’s identification card and reckless conduct.

The victim - a 22-year-old who says he was shot at several times after exiting his vehicle - was transported by an acquaintance to Evanston Hospital, where he is recovering from non life-threatening injuries. He was struck in the right thigh.
