Evanston Cops Make 1 Drunk Driving Arrest on St. Patrick's Day

More than 50 seat belt citations handed out in part of "Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over" campaign.

Only one drunk-driving arrest was made during a recent St. Patrick’s Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign conducted by the Evanston Police Department.

The department did issue 51 seat belt citations, 24 during the night hours, while patrolling that day.

According to a Wednesday news release, the campaign featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities which included a strategic media campaign as well as additional enforcement activity.

In all, the day netted 15 cases of distracted driving while operating a cell phone, 15 speeding tickets, six operation of uninsured vehicles, four charged with driving while suspended and two were found to have been driving without a valid license.

One was cited with illegal transportation of alcohol while another was found to be in possession of a stolen credit card. 22 other traffic violations were observed.

The St. Patrick’s Day crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT’s Division of Transportation Safety and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
