No Bomb Found After Threat To Evanston Library: Police

The library was one of several across the Chicago area to receive similar threats Tuesday.

EVANSTON, IL — The Evanston Public Library was targeted Tuesday afternoon in a bomb threat, one of several across the Chicago area, according to police.

Officers responded to the library in the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue, Evanston police posted on social media around 3:45 p.m. The Cook County Sheriff's Bomb Squad was deployed and the building was evacuated, law enforcement said.

Police announced around 5:30 p.m in a social media post that both the Evanston Public Library and the Robert Crown Community Center and Branch Library would remain closed until further notice. Both libraries were cleared as of 7:15 p.m., according to police, who said there was no evidence of a bomb.

All three of Aurora's libraries were also evacuated Tuesday afternoon after the city's library system was targeted in a similar threat, according to authorities. The Addison Public Library also received a bomb threat, which was deemed unfounded, local police said.
