Northlight Theatre Could Return to Evanston
Plan in place for Theatre to occupy space near downtown Evanston after 17 years in Skokie.

The Northlight Theatre, which originated in Evanston in 1974 but has been part of the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie for the last 17 years, could be making a homecoming.
The Theatre is expected to officially reveal its interest in returning to Evanston during the city’s October 19 City Council meeting. A Chicago Tribune report indicates a plan is in place to build the theatre at the southeast corner of Benson Avenue and Clark Street.
Northlight Executive Director Tim Evans said the theatre company was approached by the city of Evanston and the developer of the area on a possible return.

According to the Tribune, the developer would “build for Northlight the shell of a flexible, roughly 400-seat mainstage theater, possibly alongside two smaller spaces, which would be used by Northlight for more experimental work.”
Building out the space is preliminarily expected to cost somewhere between $4 million and $6 million.
