Downtown Evanston Apartment Complex Pending Sale Could Set Local Benchmark: Report (patch.com) — A major downtown Evanston apartment complex, Albion Evanston at 1500 Sherman Ave., is under contract to sell for about $126 million, potentially becoming one of the city's largest multifamily deals. If finalized, it would be Evanston's biggest apartment sale since E2 sold in 2024 and reflects a broader surge in high-value apartment transactions across the Chicago area.
   

2. Suspect In Violent Robbery At Evanston Spa Arrested (patch.com) — Evanston police have arrested a Chicago man they believe helped rob Relax Spa on Howard Street in a violent July incident where employees were threatened and robbed of cash, cards and a phone. Detectives are still seeking additional suspects and are asking anyone with information to contact Evanston police or submit an anonymous text tip.

Evanston Reparations Face Trump DOJ Challenge (balleralert.com) — Evanston's pioneering reparations program for Black residents is now facing a direct challenge from Trump's Justice Department, which has joined a federal lawsuit arguing the city's housing-focused payments are unconstitutional race-based benefits. City leaders and recipients counter that the program narrowly targets documented harms from past discriminatory housing policies, and the ongoing case could shape how other communities pursue similar efforts.
   

4. ETHS honors student athletes and adult techies (evanstonnow.com) — Evanston Township High School's tech team was honored for restoring critical systems after a ransomware attack so classes could start on time, while student athletes were recognized for state-level success. At the same meeting, ETHS celebrated its 20th straight balanced budget, even as nearby Evanston/Skokie District 65 faces a daunting $20 million cut to regain financial stability.
   

5. Police chief says crime is down in Evanston (evanstonnow.com) — Major crime in Evanston has dropped 13% over the past year, with especially sharp declines in property offenses, according to Police Chief Schenita Stewart's report to City Council. Violent crime and shootings remain below earlier peaks, and the department is now emphasizing community partnerships, leadership development, faster emergency response, and officer wellness to keep improving public safety.
