SAE Chapter Suspended At Loyola

Two local chapters shuttered in one month for Evanston-based frat.

CHICAGO, IL — The Evanston-based Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity has now seen two of its Chicago area chapters temporarily shut down in one month.

Loyola University Chicago this week suspended SAE's Rodgers Park chapter while the university investigates hazing allegations against the fraternity, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The suspension comes after Loyola officials received "credible information" connected to hazing accusations that involve the fraternity, according to the report, which did not provide details about the alleged hazing incidents.

The other SAE chapter to be facing potential disciplinary action is just up the road at Northwestern, where the University sent out a campus email alert Feb. 6 after officials received anonymous reports that allege multiple female students were given a date-rape drug and sexually assaulted during a Jan. 21 event at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house.

On Feb. 7, the university's Interfraternity Council indefinitely suspended the fraternity from social events. Last week, Sigma Alpha Epsilon's national headquarters suspended all operations at the Northwestern chapter.
