Autopsy Performed in Fatal St. Charles Crash; Man Remains Jailed on DUI Charges

A 23-year-old St. Charles remained in jail Tuesday on DUI charges following the city’s first fatal crash since 2010.
Joshua Spudich, of 418 2nd St. in St. Charles, is in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center on a $1 million bail, according to online jail records.
Spudich has been charged with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of driving under the influence of drugs, one count of driving while license revoked and one count improper lane usage, the Daily Herald reports.

Meanwhile, an autopsy performed Monday showed Susan Gorecki, the 65-year-old St. Charles woman killed in the Friday crash, died of injuries directly related to the motor vehicle crash, according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office. Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab for results.
The head-on crash occurred at the intersection of North 2nd Street and Timbers Trail at about 2:05 p.m. on Friday. Spudich is accused of driving his 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe across the centerline and colliding with Gorecki’s 2004 Toyota Corolla.

The fatal crash is the first in St. Charles since 2010, the Kane County Chronicle reports.
Spudich has faced criminal charges in Kane County in the past.
In April 2010, he was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol in St. Charles and in August 2010, he was charged with DUI in Geneva, according to the Kane County Chronicle. He has also been charged with aggravated robbery for accusations that he and three other teens robbed a group in a park in unincorporated St. Charles Township in November 2010.
